The Standard Grade History course gives you the chance to learn from 3 very different, exciting periods of our history:
Changing Life in Scotland and Britain 1830 -1930
Conflict and Co-operation 1890-1930 (World War One)
People and Power: Germany 1918-1939 (The Rise of Hitler)
If you are interested in finding out answers to questions like the following:
Why were wealthy ladies leading violent protests against our government, fighting the police and going on hunger-strike once they were sent to prison?
Why did a million men rush to the horror of the trenches of World War One?
Why did the German people choose a leader like Adolf Hitler in 1933?
If you would like to meet a Suffragette at the People’s Palace, Glasgow or a World War One soldier at Stirling Castle to discuss these questions with them…
…Then History is the subject for you.
You will also have the chance through group-work, debate, role-play and the use of DVDs and ICT to study how our past still affects our world in the 21st century.
Through Knowledge and Understanding and Enquiry Skills you will learn to handle historical sources and separate fact from opinion and propaganda. You will learn to think for yourself and just like today’s world leaders you will learn the lessons that the past can teach us about our country’s and our world’s future.
History will also help you through university toward the career of your choice… because it teaches you transferable skills that will prepare you to be a leader in your chosen field: Law, Medicine, Management, Science, Journalism or Social Work, whatever you choose to do…History will help you plan the rest of your life.
